Richard Lindquist, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Richard (Rick) Lindquist, MD, is certified through the American Board of Obesity Medicine, serves on their board, and has spent more than 30 years developing his well-earned reputation as a nationally renowned medical weight loss management and program development specialist.
Through Obesity PPM and Richard Lindquist Consulting, Dr. Lindquist works with hospitals and health systems around the county that want to add complementary medical weight management services to their already successful metabolic and bariatric surgery programs. Evolving these service lines into truly integrated, comprehensive obesity treatment models is a key value proposition of Obesity PPM's managed services, and Dr. Lindquist contributes leadership, vision, and consulting to these projects.
Most recently, Dr. Lindquist was medical director of Swedish Weight Loss Services in Seattle, where he developed and oversaw medically supervised weight loss programs for non-surgical and surgical patients, and provided direct patient care to overweight as well as obese patients. In addition to working with administrators to develop medical and surgical service lines in a comprehensive weight management program, he was very involved in day-to-day clinic operations, quality assurance and helping promote the program.
Dr. Lindquist has practiced weight loss medicine since 2005 and is a founding member of Monarch Medical Weight Loss Center in Oregon, where he served as medical director from 2006 to 2009. Prior to focusing on weight loss medicine, Dr. Lindquist spent much of his career in Emergency and Family Medicine. In 2001, he was honored with Oregon’s “EMS Medical Director of the Year” award.
Since he is passionate about his work and about being an engaged advocate working to help end the national obesity pandemic, Dr. Lindquist has been – and remains – actively involved in supporting various state and national organizations and has earned numerous awards for his work. Recent recognitions have included him earning the Obesity Medicine Association’s “Bariatrician of the Year” in 2013 for his numerous contributions in advancing the field of bariatric medicine. In 2015, he subsequently earned the “Steelman-Seim Educator Award for Excellence in Academics” for advancing the cause of health care through education and training.
His strong reputation in the medical weight management field also stems from a commitment to working with commercial companies to help further clinical research and the development of care and quality improvements. As an example, he has been an advisor with Novo Nordisk for three years and, more recently, for Retrofit Inc. since 2016. He is also a presenter on obesity topics for Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc.
Dr. Lindquist is also active in numerous professional associations. He is a board member of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, a Washington state trustee for the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, a trustee for the Obesity Treatment Foundation, and the Washington state representative of the Obesity Society for Access to Care.
Dr. Lindquist earned his medical degree from the University of Washington before completing a Family Practice residency at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fl. His practice and leadership skills have been honed through completion of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine’s Board Preparation pathway and courses, and the Physician Leadership Development program at Swedish.
As a long-time Northwest resident, Dr. Lindquist loves the West Coast and outdoor pursuits. He, his wife and their children live in the Greater Seattle area.
